“I enjoy sharing my love of learning and challenge people to reach the next level in the difference they can make to communities.”
Dan Gerrard
Leadership Coach, Team Coach and Facilitator at Brilliant Leaders
My interest in leadership and performance was forged on the football field having captained and coached a number of successful semi-pro football teams. I currently sit on the management team of the Spartans Community Foundation which exists to do good through the power of people and sport.
At Brilliant Leaders, I work with individual leaders and teams to consider how they can take their performance and work with communities to the next level. I’m an accredited coach, holding a diploma in Transformational Coaching from the European Mentoring and Coaching Council, and a skilled designer and facilitator of learning and development programmes.
I love learning and developing myself too, so hold three Masters degrees including an MSc in Sports Policy and International Development. I am an Insights Discovery Licensed Practitioner and use this tool to help leaders and teams build increased understanding of their different working styles and preferences.
I have considerable experience in a variety of commercial, non-profit and sporting roles, enabling me to work effectively with people across multiple sectors. My previous roles include being Community Director of Ashoka in the Netherlands (2017-2019) where I supported the development of social entrepreneurs and Senior Project Manager at Beyond Sport (2015-2017), which uses sport to build opportunity, equity and community.
Previously I have held roles at British Cycling/Sky, the London Olympics and Paralympics and at Show Racism the Red Card.
In my personal life, I enjoy family time with my wife, two kids and my dog Camden as well as time out on the road on my bike.
About my approach
Honesty, positivity, creativity and fun - these are the things I value most and love to share with others too.
I am used to high performance sporting environments where feedback is regular, direct and drives improvement so I enjoy helping leaders develop a growth mindset and a love of challenge.
Alongside the challenge I offer, I know people also value my calm, supportive style and my ability to listen and help them focus and build tangible plans.
My 1-1 and team coaching is informed by positive psychology and embodied learning - meaning I support the people I coach to have a greater awareness of the relationship between their body, mind and breath.
I see people as whole people and help leaders consider how they best navigate the volatile, unpredictable world we live in right now.
I have deep community knowledge based on my extensive experience of using the power of sport for good. This experience means I am highly skilled at including and engaging people from diverse backgrounds in learning experiences.
I also bring a significant toolbox to the table relating to building partnerships across sectors and delivering complex projects and understand what it takes to get people to work together across boundaries to make great stuff happen.
