“I want to share my experiences of bringing people together around shared goals and offer a deep held sense of community, compassion and creativity.”
Njoki Yaxley
Facilitator and Speaker at Brilliant Leaders
My career has been deeply rooted within social housing organisations in and around Norwich where I live, so has been all about my local community. In 2003, I won and was accepted for a fully funded MSc in Social Housing and Regeneration at the London School of Economics, whilst beginning to work as a Rents Officer. When I completed my studies, I then began work as a Development Officer, supporting the creation of new homes and communities in and around the East of England region. During my Clore Social Fellowship, I chose to research and publish on the interconnected areas of health and social housing which was made possible through my everyday contact with social housing residents.
About my approach
People describe me as collaborative, curious, optimistic and inclusive. I also love a good plan!
I am passionate about exploring the place of governance within leadership. It plays such an important role in how organisations work and the difference they can make to people.
I’ve risen through the ranks of the governance world, serving as a governance officer through to a Deputy Company Secretary / Governance and Risk Manager, supporting the board of a large regional Social Housing provider and more recently as Non Executive Director for a local community NHS trust.
I enjoy working with and supporting others to develop, and often do so informally, helping colleagues to progress in their careers. I’ve in the past been a Mentor on the Housing Development Network and myself been mentored by leading figures in the social housing world. I have undertaken Action Learning and Reflective practice and holding courageous conversations, as a way to continue my own personal development.
